Residents of Mebane are being asked to conserve water following severe flooding caused by Tropical Depression Chantal. The flooding has led to the shutdown of the Graham–Mebane Water Treatment Plant, prompting Mebane and nearby Graham to rely on backup water sources from Burlington and the Orange-Alamance Water Authority.
According to FOX8 WGHP, the water plant was overwhelmed by floodwaters from Graham-Mebane Lake and its tributaries, rendering it inoperable. As a result, city officials are urging residents to use water only for essential purposes. Non-essential businesses have been asked to remain closed to aid in water conservation efforts. Additionally, residents may experience discoloration and turbidity in their water lines during this period.
City officials have not yet provided a timeline for when the Graham–Mebane Water Treatment Plant will resume operations, but emergency services continue to operate. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about the situation and adhere to water conservation requests until further notice.
