McCarthy Says Rescue Plan Won't Help Schools Reopen

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy says the economic rescue package to be voted on tomorrow rewards states to remain closed.

The California Republican told Fox News children need to get back into classrooms, citing the mental health and educational effects of school closures.

He said he just saw a report from his own district where 14% of students are earning Ds and Fs.

He said the Democrats again voted last night not to provide funding for schools to reopen and the money proposed in their rescue package wouldn't get to schools until next year.

McCarthy said the damage goes beyond grades as many youth are suffering from anxiety and depression.
