Authorities in Louisiana have recaptured one of the three inmates who escaped from the St. Landry Parish Jail earlier this week. Jonathan Joseph, 24, was taken into custody without incident. Joseph, from Opelousas, faces several charges, including principal to first-degree rape and involvement in a recent drive-by shooting.
The escape occurred on Wednesday (December 3) when three inmates broke out of the jail by removing pieces of a degrading wall and using sheets to scale the outer wall. Joseph Harrington, another escapee, died by suicide after being located by police. The third inmate, Keith Eli, 24, remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous. Eli is charged with attempted second-degree murder.
Sheriff Bobby Guidroz has urged the public not to approach Eli if seen, but to contact law enforcement immediately. The sheriff's office is conducting an internal investigation into the escape, and authorities continue to search for Eli, warning residents to secure their homes and vehicles.
