UFO Spotted In Skies Above Charlotte

"Are we being watched?" That must be what's on the mind of one community in North Carolina after photos circulating online show what appears to be a UFO of floating lights high in the sky.

Alisa Homewood saw the string of lights above her Indian Trail community just outside Charlotte last week. It spooked her enough that she took to social media to find out if anyone else in the area saw the mysterious object.

"Anyone know what these lights were tonight?" Homewood asked on the "What's Up Indian Trail?" community Facebook page, accompanied by photos of the lights. "No sound at all. They flickered like lanterns, but followed the same exact path up until they disappeared which was odd."

Homewood initially though the lights could be helicopters in the distance, but as they got closer there was no sound. When she got a better view of the lights, she noticed they appeared to flicker like a lantern. However, in the photos she took, a blue glow seemed to emanate from the lights.

She ended up posting the photos on her community Facebook page, sparking debates of what the lights could be. Though she was weary about posting the photos, she was immediately met with neighbors commenting that they had seen the UFO as well.

"Yea we saw them too and couldn't figure out what they were," read one comment from a Charlotte woman. "They did flicker, but like how big were those lanterns then for us to see it so bright and clear from so far away."

Another commenter said, "I've seen something like this recently too. It was 5:00 am so no, not lanterns. The string of lights wasn't there, only the triangle shape lights. It hovered, moved slowly and zero sound."

As it turns out, Charlotte wasn't the only place that got to experience the strange lights floating in the sky. Several people along the East Coast noticed similar lights high above their homes. Whitney Doucet was out for a walk Tuesday night when she snapped some shots of a UFO that looked similar to the one Homewood saw.

So is there a possible explanation? According to the Charlotte Observer, Union County, where the community is located, is among the counties Fort Bragg uses for "unconventional warfare exercises" by special forces, which can sometimes involve the use of flares. However, the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center lists the most recent exercises ended on December 18.
