The body of a child was found Thursday afternoon (November 12) in a suspected drowning accident. Rolesville Police officers received a report Thursday morning that someone had drowned.
Around 12:15 p.m., police arrived to investigated the report, which included information about a missing child. After a search, police found the body of an 11-year-old child off of Lord Granville Way. In a news conference held around 2 p.m., police said heavy rains and flooding were factors in the child's death.
According to ABC 11, neighbors said a young boy had been playing with his siblings when he fell into a creek. Police, however, have not released any additional details on the incident.
North Carolina was hit with heavy rains early Thursday morning. At least two counties have declared a State of Emergency after the torrential downpour caused severe flooding and power outages across parts of the state. Little Sugar Creek in Mecklenburg County has risen to 15.2 feet and counting, surpassing a record set in 1997 during Hurricane Danny.
Much of North Carolina continues to be under a flash flood watch throughout the night. Throughout Thursday, emergency crews have responded to multiple calls for swift water rescues. In Alexander County, at least 30 people were rescued from rising waters at the Hiddenite Family Campground. Police are urging people to stay safe by keeping off the roads.
