GREENSBORO, NC -- Hurricane Florence is getting closer, and is expected to be right along the Carolina coast near Wilmington by early Friday morning. Here in the Piedmont, we're more concerned about possible rainfall that could bring flooding.
"Weather prediction with the forecast models is all about the physics of the atmosphere and when a system stalls out and just barely drifts for a while its difficult for the models to predict where it move after that slow down" says longtime triad meteorologist Eric Chilton. "If Florence drifts 50 miles one way or the other can make the difference between a few inches of rain to a maximum of 10 inches of rain for our area. We are still watching this closely."
