List: North Carolina Residents Who Were Arrested At The Capitol Last Week

Dozens of arrests have been made since an angry mob of President Donald Trump's supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol while lawmakers were in session to certify President-Elect Joe Biden's win.

At least five people died and more than 60 were arrested following the unrest in Washington D.C. The FBI and other officials are still investigating, and more arrests are likely.

As of Monday, at least seven people from North Carolina have been arrested and are facing charges. None are currently facing federal charges.

  • Jere Brower, 45 from Sanford
  • Earl Glosser, 40 from Matthews
  • Lance Grames, 42 from Sarfield
  • Michael Jones, 23 (no address listed on court records)
  • Tim Scarboro, 33 from Monroe
  • James Smawley, 27 from Charlotte
  • Jay Thaxton, 46 from Concord

All of the North Carolina residents were arrested in Washington and are charged with violating the curfew set by local law enforcement, but Brower, Glosser, and Grames each face additional charges for unlawful entry.

Thomas Gronek, a 46-year-old man from Asheville, is facing more serious weapons charges after police said he was found on a Metro D.C. bus with two firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition on Tuesday, one day before the riot.

"Those who committed crimes in and around our Capitol will be dealt with by authorities in the District of Columbia," Robert Higdon, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, said in a statement. "But, if investigations reveal that citizens of the Easter District of North Carolina traveled to Washington from our district with the intent to commit federal crimes, we will prosecute them here."
