Man Accused Of Shooting 5-Year-Old Boy In The Head For Biking On His Lawn

A North Carolina man is facing murder charges after allegedly killing a five-year-old boy riding a bicycleCannon Hinnant was riding his bike in front of his father's home in Wilson when 25-year-old Darius Sessoms walked up the young boy, shot him in the head, and then went back into his home.

A neighbor witnessed the shooting and thought that Sessoms was just playing with the boy and his two sisters, seven and eight.

"My first reaction was he's playing with the kids," Doris Lybrand told WRAL. "For a second, I thought, 'That couldn't happen.' People don't run across the street and kill kids.'"

When she saw the reaction of Cannon's father, she knew the boy had been shot and went back inside her home and called 911.

Paramedics rushed Cannon to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"He was just a loving kid," Cannon's mother Bonny Waddell told the Wilson Times. "He had the biggest heart."

Cannon's family was shocked that Sessoms, who has lived next door for years, was capable of callously killing the young boy in front of his two sisters.

While authorities have not released a motive for the senseless murder, Cannon's family said he was killed for riding his bike on Sessoms' lawn.

"A beautiful 5 year old baby boy riding his bicycle was shot by his neighbor point blank in Wilson NC. One minute he is enjoying his life, the next it all ends because he rode into his neighbors yard," Christina Prezioso, a cousin of Cannon's father, wrote on GoFundMe.
